Tweet During World War I Americans of all ages were asked by the United States government to knit wool socks, sweaters, and other garments to warm American soldiers at home and abroad. Most of this knitting was produced by volunteers working under the auspices of the American Red Cross. During the course of the war more than 6, Seattle-area knitters as well as knitters from other parts of the state produced hundreds of thousands of knitted items for the war effort.
This time I decided to show a simple and cute knitted headband pattern that can fit an adult, as well as a fashionable lady. I'm absolutely sure that in the end you will get an adorable set that you can present to one of your friends or wear proudly yourself.
To knit the headband I used a seed stitch technique that is essentially an alternation of knit and purl stitch. In total 17 stitches. Be careful Knitting women the end you should receive odd number of stitches.
Cast off all the stitches and bind off, leaving the long tail.
I have arranged all the pictures in a way I like to bind off the stitches. Please check them below: Sew together both ends of the headband. Do not cut yarn, instead pull the yarn to make the wrinkled look. For the middle part of the knitted headband cast on 7 stitches and repeat the same seed stitch pattern.
I have decided to use the selvage stitches since I wanted to get a nice-looking edge of the knitted headband.
Combine middle part of the headband over the main part and sew it from the backside.
On the picture you can see how it looks from the backside. We are done, the headband is ready.
